It can be rather upsetting to be treated poorly by a sales person but it is even worse when it is the owner of the shop. I have to admit I quit going to a very popular LQS for just that reason. It can be a very fine line between sarcasm and being totally rude to someone, and this place always seemed to cross it. The grand finale for me was when I bought almost $200.00 in fabric, and the last piece was leaving 3 inches. She looked at me asked me if I wanted it, but she was going to charge me for an 1/8th of a yard, something about it as the least amount. At first I was going to say sure, but then thought it wasn't an 1/8th so said, "No, I don't need it". She glared as me, said Really? I was very nice about it, just said, "No, I think I have plenty of fabric already."

I don't want something for nothing, but I didn't want to spend more because she couldn't calculate less than 1/8th of a yard. They are doing very well, so the loss of my patronage hasn't hurt them any, but I don't have to worry about how am I going to be treated today.

If this was the owner - really? She probably lost $1000 of business from you over about less than $.50. If she had "given" you that last three inches - it might have cost her about $1.00 "retail."

A very good example of "foolish frugality".
