Stack and whack - you make octagons or hexagons and then, depending on which S&W you are making, they are put into blocks and/or set with another fabric.

One Block Wonder - you make octagons or hexagons and they are set together without benefit of a second fabric. Well, unless you count the borders or do those little cube-thingies.

Kalidescope - I have no personal experience but I heard someone say you don't stack 6 or 8 layers of fabric and cut, you fussy cut. I am not saying this is truth, just what I heard.

BTW, 4 patch posey is a version of these methods, only you use 4 layers of fabric instead of 6 or 8.

good question. I have wondered myself. Having been out of the quilting loop for a long time the new terms and definately the shortcut names are almost foreign to me.

I went to this page and scrolled from the top to the bottom and saw nothing about these things. Did see a list of everyone who was currently on the site, though. :)

Do you have to first click on another link to find it? Like user defined topics, etc?

They are all kaleidscope in style.
Stack and Whack is a or was originally a specific pattern designed by Bethany Reynolds in Maine. Other patterns have been developed using the same basic technique.
They all are based on cutting strips or squares from a certain number of layers of fabric that are exact in their design placement. Then depending on the number of layers you cut you fan out the cuts making the kaleidscope design. Before Bethany introduced the concept these designs were fussy cut to get exact motifs.
Bethany's first design was Pinwheel Kaleidscope which was modified later into many patterns using the concept.
I associate Stack and Whack with Bethany Reynolds and the many designs she has created even tho the technique of stacking fabric layers is common in all.
Stack and Whack usually has other fabrics in the block
One Block Wonder uses the same stacking concept peoduces a kaleidscope block but they are joined next to each other without sashing and many are arranged in a draduation of color or pattern.
OBW are usually 6 pieces in the block
Stacked Posie (if that is correct) usually contains four squares.
But they are all Kaleidscope in style.
