I use my regular 1/4" foot. I have tried using the walking foot but didn't see how it made any difference other than the hassle of putting it on.

I've always found that putting binding on with the walking foot, makes the sewing easier because you are sewing on 2 layers of fabric as well as batting and the binding, lots of layers. I think the walking foot gives better results.

I sew binding to the back with walking foot. I turn to the front and sew on with a regular foot. I am mking quilts to donate. I think machine sewing is better for donated quilts, don't know how much use they will get.
For my own quilts I hand sew to the back.

If it's more than one layer I always use my walking foot. Piecing blocks does not qualify.

With my Bernina I use the 1/4" foot. I tried the walking foot but had trouble keeping a straight stitching line. Maybe I should try again when I'm not in a hurry.

I use a walking foot and it has saved me from getting puckers in the front of the quilt. I had been having trouble with these little puckers and now I rarely ever have a pucker. The three layers sew together so much better.
