My different machines never bunch up threads.Use the leader/ender method for years. Don't have threads all over my home or my projects. It saves thread. You get a head start on another project.Seems like a win/win to me, WHY NOT?

There is a neat book By Bonnie Hunter called Adventures With Leaders and Enders. Gives patterns of what you can do with your leaders and enders. To answer your question - I use leaders most all the time and always when chain piecing.
I'm so jealous you took a class from her - I read Sally Collins' book on machine piecing and it changed my whole outlook - and improved my patchwork a lot! But I haven't got the knack of leaders yet...
