I have a very old version and love it. The surface is hard. I hate the plastic ones because it doesn't offer the rigidity that I get from Altos. Since I got mine I got rid of my plastic mats. Highly recommend it.

I have had mine for years. Bought it when my hands first started going bad. They are now much worse, but I can still quilt thanks to the Alto's QuiltCut2. It only takes 1 pressure point to hold the cutting edge and even with tremors it stays put!!!
It was one of the best investments i ever made.
I have since looked at the AccuQuilt Go ... but that take too much strength to use it and the dies really cost a bundle. Also there is some fabric wastage I don't like. Yes, you can order your own specially made dies, but, again, they cost.
