Great deal! I like walmart fabric, you need to look at any
fabric but i found walmart for the most part still a good
fabric and not to thin.
I bought some quilted diamond shape in black and off white, really like it and it was almost 1/2of the price at Joann's.
Also bought black cotton for sun bonnet sue & sam, not nearly as thin as Joann's. It was 3.50a yd, at Joann's 6.-9 a yd. so thin you see thru it.
I do buy at Joann's also but only on sale or coupon.
Anywhere I make sure it is not to thin

I had the same luck with some fabric a couple of years back. I needed 8 yards for a backing for a quilt for my niece. I found a light purple...perfect for the quilt...and paid only a $1 per yard. Best bargain I've ever gotten! I know what you mean about some people are about where they buy their fabric but I can't afford $9.99-$12.99 per yard on a regular basis....on special occasions & in desperate need for the "perfect" fabric but I will check at Walmart regularly. Haven't had a problem!!! Good for You!!!

I went to our local WalMart this weekend and the "brought back new fabric dept" had shrunk again since the restocking! I was very disappointed. My son said the huge fabric dept at the WalMart where he lives has been downsized a lot.

Our walmart had done away with their fabric dept.,
now we have about 4 rows and a 1/2 of heavy material.
Then you have fat qarters, sewing notions, batting etc.
Not as large as it was before closing I think it was about
8 rows or so. But it alot better than zero. They are
getting new fabric every day and expanding.
30 min. from here the walmart ner did away with fabric an said they will do away with their fabric dept.
It that crazy or what.

The most expensive is not always the best.
When my step daughter was graduating. She of course wanted to go to the prom. She went to Neiman Marcus and found a gown she liked $215.00. Outrageous. DH and I happened to go to Sears, and JC Penny. Saw the same identical gown in JC penny for $95.00. For a one night affair, I felt that was even a bit much, but, told her about it. NO, NO, NO, Neiman Marcus she claimed had the better made gown. Her mother, and maternal grandmother accused us of being cheap. My husband was the target. I told them, we are offering half towards the gown at JC Penny or Sears. You think the other fabric is better or to wear Neiman Marcus for the name. Go for it. You have more money to burn. Step daughter would not speak to us for 2 weeks. Moral of this story, is money does not prove better. Shopping around does

Your step daughter has expensive taste. Hope she finds a wealthy husband. 
One of my nephews was getting married, and his bride to be sent out the link to her "bridal registry". She was evidently lusting for a set of All-Clad pots and pans. Huge prices. Yes, they probably last forever .... but who could afford even one pan as a gift. Not us. I still have my copper bottom set of Revere Ware pans that were a wedding gift over 40 years ago and they are still like new. My granddaughter will be getting married in another year or so, and I dread getting her bridal registry list. Another "label girl". ut oh.

Was traveling this week and stopped in Walmart for a couple of things and was surprised to see a fabric section. The sales lady said that WM is bringing back the sewing section due to the high demand from their customers. I was surprised at the quality of fabric, better than what they used to carry. They will continue the Quilt of the Month pattern/coordinating fabrics.

I am not a Wal-mart fabric snubber. Some in my guild poo poo it but then I have to remember they are shop owners. The fabric companies that provide W's fabric are also suppling quilt shops but not with the same designs. One of my fave things about Walmart is they monthly pattern and fabric projects. The patterns are free to download off the internet and then you can buy the fabrics much cheaper then their regular fabrics. You can make a full sized quilt for under $30 cost for the top and this makes a great quilt for charity give away.
