I have two eight year olds wanting to make a new quilt for their American girl dolls they are getting next month.

My girl is an experienced beginning quilter with 2 quilts already made and has used thangles in the past (Yes I created a quilt/fabric monster). She eventually got tired of removing the paper and I ended up doing it. So I was looking for a new method for her. I feel confident she could handle the new technique but would this be ok for a brand new sewer (my niece) to sew without distorting the edges?

I have never used it and would normally try it first but I really do not have the time to test it out before we need to get working on these quilts. So any help/tips would greatly be appreciated.

Should add I bought LQS really high quality Batiks for both girls and plan to starch heavily to help with sizing.

    Thanks!

I think that's great that the girls want to make quilts!

The batiks I've used have been tightly woven enough that starch did not seem necessary. But then I haven't tried using starch yet.
