I am learning to hand quilt and so far things are going pretty well. Have learned the quilter's knot and to pop it through the backing. My stitching is getting straighter and more even. What I can't seem to figure out is a way to tie off my thread so it doesn't show. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

I wrap it around the needle twice, run it under the top fabric about an inch or so, and then pop it through. I used to wrap it 3 or 4 times but the thread kept breaking, which made me say bad words.

Thank you Boston, I will try that and thanks for the youtube link sewwhat. I will try to watch it. We have a lousy internet connection (satalite) out here in the boonies, so it can take forever to download a video.

i make one slip knot near the fabric, then run my needle out thru the batting a few inches.

That is how I bury my knots, too.

I wrap it once or twice and make a knot and then pop it through and run it through the batting.

This is what I do as well. Try to get the knot as close to the end of my current line of stitching as possible, do as above, then pull up about an inch away. Kind of scrunch up the quilt top a bit and clip the thread. At that point, the end of the thread stays buried in the sandwich when you flatten it back out again.

This is going to be hard to put into words.....I try to get close to a seam before I tie off....then bring needle up to top a stitch length from work, make the quilters knot with about a 1/2" tail, then do a back stitch in that space you just made, weaving that needle in batting and seam, come out to top then pull thread, if knot gets stuck, I don't pull as in video, I "scratch" the fabric where knot is supposed to get thru, opening the weave enough to allow knot to pass and bury itself.....snip thread... I also do one back stitch stitch occasionally as I am stitching....down the road in case of a thread break.......smaller section to repair....just my way
