I use single strand of hand quilting thread and take little stitches, but double thread would work fine too and give it a little extra strength

I like your idea of knotting every 6 or 7 inches :)

Please advise - when sewing binding to the back of the quilt after machine stitching it to the front, do you use double or single thread? This is on a baby quilt that I'm sure will get much use. Thanks

I always uase double strand cause it lasts longer espically on a baby quilt it gets washed alot .....

For a baby quilt getting much use I would stitch it to the back and roll it to the front and machine stitch it. That way you don't have to worry about it coming unstitched or the baby getting caught in hand stitches. I never do any hand stitching on baby things, unless it is to be an heirloom never to be used.
    I agree

I use single thread for hand stitching the back of my binding. Very small stitches and I take a double stitch after about the 10th stitch. Helps to hold the binding better. Betty Lee

I always use 2 threads and hand binding. Sometimes I will pull back to front and top sew my biscit quilts by mechine to make sure that I have all the edeges sewn together.

I was going to say the same thing- I used to hand stitch the front, but I have been machine sewing all of my quilts lately. I got into machine sewing both sides of the binding making mug rugs, and that seemed pretty slick!

Double thread or single quilting thread and small stitches.
