I think that your machine has the thread cutter??? If so, your bobbin thread may have hit a hiccup, got caught and as a result popped up slightly and commited Hari-Cari on itself or slit i'ts own throat.

yep...it's happened to me too. not sure what causes it but once this happens, this wound bobbin is no longer usable. It pulls too much and causes the thread to wind too tight around the bobbin. I just put these aside and use for hand sewing.
I have a Babylock and it happens occasionally, usually when I need to clean the bobbin area thoroughly with a vacuum.
Or, as someone else mentioned, maybe the bobbin didn't wind properly.
