Default HELP!--Major problem with Janome 8900

I was in the middle of sewing 2 pieces of cotton fabric, not even on a seam. The needle suddenly stuck in the down position and won't come back up. The picture on the screen says to manually move the wheel on the side to bring the needle back up but that won't move either. My husband cut the needle in half because we thought the needle was bent and that was the problem. But that wasn't it. I can't get the top part of the needle out either because I can't get it to raise high enough. I've requested to join the Yahoo 8900 group but that might take a day or so. The dealer and the main office don't open until tomorrow.

Any ideas how to get the needle back in the up position?

Have you unplugged the machine? Sometimes doing that can help when it is computer problem. I don't own a Janome so I don't have any other ideas, sorry.

I have the same machine since August but have never had this issue. My first thought would be to unplug it and wait a minute then plug it back in and turn it on and see if it resets itself enough to remove the needle. Sorry could not help you more. Good luck I know it is frustrating things like this always happens on the weekend when there are no experts in the repair shops to help.

Thank you both. I unplugged it for half an hour and then was able to manually turn the wheel backwards and then forwards. I cleaned out the bobbin area and put in a new needle. Sewed a quick piece and it seems to work. I'll give it a good workout tomorrow. I hope it was just a one time thing and not a recurring problem. Can't figure out what I would have done to it to get it stuck.
