    Default Help with wool batting

I just purchased some Hobbs Tuscany 100% wool batting for a large quilt which is intended to be washed. The directions on the batting are making me think I may have made a mistake. They say that the quilt should not be put into the dryer because "lack of temperature control" and tumbling could cause shrinking. There's no practical way a queen-sized quilt can be dried flat. I've allowed for 3-5% shrinkage in my dimensions. They also caution against the possibility of the batting "felting" with too much agitation, tumbling or steam. Is this mostly a CYA disclaimer? Do any of you have experience using this batting and then washing and drying (in the dryer) the quilt? Thanks so much for your help.

    Wool Batting...Let's Talk...

I have used the Tuscany Wool batting and just used a gentle cycle and air tumble dry in my dryer and had no issues.

I've washed and dried a king size quilt and had no problems at all.
    I didn't pre-wash the batting.

I have Quilter's Dream wool batting in the quilt on my King bed and I wash cold water, dry on low. No issues.

I love wool batting and haven't had any problems. They are only about 6 years old but they look good. My washer does not have a center agitator.

I love Tuscany wool batting. Machine wash in our front load washer on delicate and either line dry when weather allows, or put in the dryer on very low heat. No problems thus far.

I love wool batting and in my house, everything goes through the regular laundry settings, which includes a high heat for the dryer. I have not had issues with washing quilts with wool batting in them.

Note I do pre-wash and high heat dry all my fabrics before they go into a quilt.
