I am thinking of doing one .. I have done the shadow ones for the grands (like a shadow portrait on the wall), but have not taken a picture and done a quilt that way.
Is it easy to do ? did you embroider over it ? What kind of transfer paper did you use ? Did you back it ? All kinds of questions come to mind for this project ! any answers or ideas ...

I have used photos in many quilts; I do not put any stitches over them.
I am devoted to the white miracle fabric sheets from C Jenkins Co. to print photos for quilts
It's got a hand almost like lawn cotton.
I buy irregulars cause they're cheaper and it's stray threads that make them irregular - easy to snip off.
Much better hand than Printed Treasures, which is also much more expensive.

I have done a lot of quilts and pillows with pictures -- I started about 9 years ago. I found that by over saturating the color in the picture, it looks better on the quilt -- most of what I do has fairly vibrant colors and folks are amazed that they are photographs.

I have both stitched through pictures and not -- you have to live with holes if you stitch through since the combination of the chemicals in the fabric and the chemicals in the ink make the fabric a little funky.

Thanks gollytwo for the link -- I have spent a lot on Printed Treasures over the years and will try them. I tried to do my own, but the colors seemed to fade more than with the commercially prepared fabric.

i print my pictures on fabric- cure and heat set them- and use them to construct blocks for a quilt- i've made family members about a dozen memory quilts- they are great fun!
