Default How to use this template?

Someone gave me a template that I thought was for a Dresden. But it already has the angle cut at the top. When I watch MSQC video on Dresden, it show the angle top being created from sewing across the top of a straight top ( I think). Am I missing something?

It just eliminates the need to sew across to make the blade pointed. See the little openings that you use to mark the seams lines? You sew them together first on the long lines and then turn the tops over on the line to applique them down, or if you have the other templet to set them in, sew on that line to join the pieces together. This could save time.

I just use the MSQC way to sew the straight edge. That template may be part of another piecing pattern?

I would try cutting a blade and see how it works. I think it is a Dresden blade without as much bulk as the straight edge creates.

Thanks, everyone. I will just give it a try as suggested.

I saw a video where a quilter made a Dresden with out a template. She used 2 rectangle pieces and sewed on just the long sides. Then she came in just on the diagonal from one corner to the opposite and cut. Made the blade.
