I got a great deal on sheets from Walls, Company Store sheets. i bought several with the plan to do an allover meander. My question-have you used sheets (front and back), any problems, tension or other you can share. How pleased were you with the results?

I have used sheets befor and had no problems with them. They look nice with a panto.

I also have used sheets, top and back of quilt, especially for practice.

I've not used them. The only thing I've heard is to watch the thread count. The tighter the weave the harder it is on the needles.

Try a small piece to practice and see how it goes.

The reasoning behind not using sheets is that the thread count is so high that the needle pierces the thread and breaks it and there fore shortens the life of the fabric.

I have had people use them. I hear a little pop which means they are high count sheets. But how often are they washed and does it really matter. A high count life's shortened is probably the same as a lower counts life time use.

I have lots of ladies that use flannel sheets as backs with great results. I personally don't like quilting on percale sheets because of the higher thread count and the pop!pop!pop! of threads breaking just grates on my nerves. Just know that if you have to rip stitches, those holes are FOREVER!

I've used them, I normally quilt with a 100/16 but if you get a good quality sheet you have to experiement with needle size. If you go with smaller needle it can be dangerous for your machine and to you. Dont ask how I know. So the answer is to only by cheap sheets, nothing over 250 count.

i never use them and i reject orders that include sheets.

the thread breaking is unacceptable to me and i don't want that quality of work out there with my name on it.

Sorry, I'm going to have to ask what may happen? The word dangerous sounds scary. I don't want to ruin the sheets my daughter picked. I normally use an 18 needle but thought a 16 would work better. I don't know the thread count of the sheets, they have very little information on the label being at a close-out store. They feel really nice though!
