Looking to make a fence rail rag quilt, please help

I need help from anyone who wants to give it LOL
I want the finished block to be 4 by 4 if possible
how big do i make the actual squares? if you take a 1/2 off on each side, would you make it a 6 inch block to get 4 inches???
Also, I want to do 3 rectangles each 1.5 (finished size) to make up the front part of the rag quilt. How big would they have to be before sewing together and clipping the rails?
Does any of this make sense??? LOL

If you want to use 1/2 inch seam allowances -
Take the finished size and add 1 inch both ways.
Examples -
2 x 6 finished size strip - cut 3 x 7
4 x 4 finished size square - cut 5 x 5
6 x 6 finished size square - cut 7 x 7
If you want a smaller than 6x6 finished square, consider going to a 4.5 (4-1/2) inch square. That divides easily by 3.
4-1/2 divided by 3 = 1.5 (1-1/2)
If you want to go that route with the 1/2 inch seam allowances - cut your strips 5-1/2 x 2-1/2 (5.5 x 2.5) inches

LOL, we shortly figured it out after posting that...Thank you sooo much for getting back to me ;-)
Next question is...I have 6 fabrics for the top....do i do 3 and 3 or mix them up for a scrappy look ....decisions decisions

There are a couple fun things you can do with the triple rails - depends on if you want scrappy or not. There is one layout on my blog.
Also - when I did a rag quilt recently with rail fence blocks, instead of making each rail sandwich separately, I first sewed the three layers together in strips and then cut the strips down to rails (also on my blog).
