i haven't used my maiden name since i was 17 years old. i put my current married name. as for any one tracking our family history i don't think there is anyone left to do it and no reason to. i am the end of the line for that sledge family and that is a good thing.

Lots of my friends did not change their names either. Is it unusual in the US?
In the USA, it is traditional for the woman to take their husband's last name. In all the USA history, this seems to be the custom. However, many women use their maiden name as their middle name. In the current age, many women hyphenate their maiden name with their husband's name so that their maiden name is predominate. Other women don't take their husband's name at all.

In my husband's family, it is tradition for the wife to use your maiden name as your middle name. I chose not to since both the surnames rhyme with each other. Just couldn't do it. I like the "nee" suggestion, though. I might use that.

My husband's last name came pre-hypenated! I would have had a double hyphen.

I use the name I use....My mother in law was Jeanne Daniels, I became Jeanne B Daniels. Hubby's family all call me Jeanne B. My maiden name is gone. Gave it up 45 years ago and never looked back.

Funny. In the U.S. they ask us for our mother's maiden name!

As another poster said - LABEL your quilts!

I have 5 quilts that came from my dad's family. We think my G-GM made them. But there is not a label on any of them.

My married name is 5 letters, so I use that. My maiden name was long.

All these stories are very interesting, so I thought I'd add mine to the mix.
I was born Florence Ann Blair but always called Ann. When I married the first time, I dropped the Blair and added my husband's last name. But some official paperwork requires a maiden name, and I needed the Ann because I was never called Florence. When we divorced 30 years later, I kept his name, partly because my kids and grandkids have his name. But then I married again. At that time, I dropped husband-#1's name and took husband #2's name. But that made my drivers license name: Florence Blair Humphries, because they refused to add the Ann. So after a year, I went to court and got the Florence dropped. Now I'm legally Ann Blair Humphries and I like it !!! That's how I sign most quilts.

    I'm Jennifer (maiden) (hubbys-lastname) :)

I made my maiden name my middle name. I usually use his full last name, but for some things it's easier to just use one of his. If I use the first part of it nothing gets messed up. Besides, the electric company and gas company only have me having his "first" last name :D
