Can anyone tell me : if I want to make 1" HST what size square I begin with, and how to get that figure. I am so math challenged. Is there a link to a chart or something to help with this stuff? Thanks in advance for any help.

This is what I do except I make my squares 1 inch larger than the finished size I want. I refuse to measure 7/8 of an inch.

I too always make mine 1" larger then if a seam is awry I can trim and not have to pitch it!

I always add 3/8 to the finished size. If I need a 3.5" finished square. I cut my square to be halved 3 1/2 + 3/8 = 3 7/8, cut in half. Sew haves together and you get your 3.5" square.

So if the 1" is your finished size I am assuming 1.5 would be including your seam allowance, so your squares to be cut in half need to be 1 7/8.

cut squares 7/8" larger than your FINIISHED size. easiest to cut 1" larger, sew, then trim with cutter.
