    Default Motor Coach Sewing?

So on our way home this weekend we passed motorcoach after motorcoach. Hubby wants to do that for a year or three after we retire.

Does anyone have one? And if so.....do you take your sewing machine?

He swears up and down I could sew while he drives. I am sure he meant in the back, but I had to giggle at the thought of sitting up front with those pretty big windows and having my machine running. Can you imagine the looks?

    LOL

My in-laws used to have one of those and it was great to take vacations when our kids were growing up. I didn't bring my machine along but I don't see why you couldn't!
Our cat goes in the car with us and you should see the giggles and smiles we get!

I have heard of lots of people sewing in their motorhome. I have even seen a "desktop" made to fit right at the front seat so you could sight see and sew! Many of the ones I have observed have little featherweight machines. And, as for power while you are moving, they do make converters to run off the "cigarette lighter" plugs in cars.. not sure if they would be powerful enough to run a machine though. But then.. most motorhomes have some sort of electrical supply, deep batteries.. so. I say! YES, you can sew and see!

I"m not sure I'd want to try to sew with my machine in a moving vehicle. In the first place, motion sickness would be guaranteed for me. In the second place, there's too much movement for me to be comfortable with machine sewing. I like a nice steady area with no sway.

I'd suggest taking one for a test drive on the highway and think of yourself trying to sew. See if you think its going to work or not.

We took a road trip last month and I was not able to do any hand-work while riding. It was just too bumpy. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't do any machine work either.

We started out in a motorhome & that's where I learned to quilt! I wouldn't want to sew going down the road though, because one good bump in the road and you're liable to sew over your finger!! When you stop though, you can set up either inside or out. All the regular campgrounds have shore power which means your normal electricity. We've moved into a 5th Wheel now so it's more like an apartment. Love it & always set up in front of my recliner. :-) Good luck!!

Oh jeez....never thought of the bouncing! And I've already sewed through my nail when they were long, a very long time ago....maybe when the unit is stationary....lol

We have been going to Texas for 3 months in the winter for the last several years. I take my Pfaff machine and bring sewing/quilting projects. I usually try to have my own "kits" made up, ready to go. I like to cut the larger pieces at home where I have more room. My machine travels under the kitchen table and I have plenty of room to store cutting mats, etc. under the bed and other items in cupboards over the bed. I do piecing only, then do the quilting when we get home. Also always carry a hand work project. It would not interest me to try to use my machine as we go down the road. I actually like to look at the scenery and I am the navigator for my DH so have to be aware of what is going on. Luckily, I can read while in a vehicle in case there isn't anything interesting to see and it is easy to tune in and out if directions are needed. I hope you give it a try. It is a great way to meet new people, find new quilt shops and have fun!

Motor home sounds like fun. I'd wait to sew until campground, a seatbelt for you and no flying metal machines in an accident.
