Has anyone made mug rug to use as coasters? I'd like to make some to use with cold drinks, the ones that sweat in the summer. What can I put in them to keep my furniture dry? I'm tired of using the ones that advertise my insurance company, the company DH used to work for, etc. etc. etc.

I use insubrite in my coasters -- not sure of spelling. Sometimes, I also use warm n natural batting.

You could use oil cloth or the currant equivalent.

Hmmm....I've been using mine as coasters when out on the deck with a glass patio table. But now that you mention it, they would probably leave a "wet stain" if I were to use them on my inside oak table. Look forward to hearing what others do.

I use old panty hose. I cut off the panty part, then cut each leg about 2 inches wide in curricular cuts all the way down to the foot. Then I crochet it in a long single line, then sew it together in a circle or square. What I like to put them in are some of the very old, absolutely lovely cut crystal cigarette ash trays. Or some extra saucers that mix or match a fancy tea pot. I've been using some of these for many years, and they wash and dry in the machines. They also bleach well when coffee or tea or soda is spilled on them.

I have a mug rug I got in an exchange and I use it as my mouse pad. Love it....works great!:)

well, NO, then it is just a coaster and not a mug rug..a mug rug is larger and intended to hold a larger mug and cookies!
a coaster is smaller and just for a glass to sit on...

also as a coaster you would have to leave out the batting...it would be unstable with batting in it....this is THE best pattern for a coaster...wine glass or regular glass!

I have a set of coasters that were given to me by a quilter who owned a quilt shop and they have batting in them. She used warm and natural. I use them on my wooden table on my sunporch for drinks and so far they have not left a watermark.

I use my coasters all the time, too. They have both ultrabrite & batting in them; they do not make the glasses unstead.
