I was at my LQS the other day, and they are selling a Husqvarna Computerized Embroidery Machine for $750. When I talked to the salesperson, no one knows the year but it is the top of the line. She told me that it takes floppy disks, which you can pick up anywhere. I checked the EmbLibrary today, and they have different selections for less then $10. The only cost I can tell is going to be the different colors of threads. What is the best color thread to use if I get this machine? I presently have a Husqvarna Emerald 116. I think it would be a step up for me, I could learn so much more. Is there anyone that can give me any advise on this?

Did they tell you that you could download "any" embroidery patterns onto the "floppys". I have the Husqvarna Rose which takes the special cards for sets of designs. I never invested in the software need to download other patterns. Someone sent me a computer file with embroidery patterns & my computer friends investigated & saw that Husqvarna as their own computer language. This is why I have avoided the embroidery. It is complicated & keeps changing.

It has to have some kind of "model name"....Is it a DesignerI/or II or Designer SE? I have a Designer I and am very happy w it. Does the price include the embroidery attachment and how many hoops and designs come w it? Another smaller cost would be fabric and stabilizer (not so expensive). I love getting designs from Emblibrary. They keep a history of your account and if you lose track of your designs you can always download them again.
Also, hopefully, the manual is included.

Do you have a computer that uses floppy disc? Most are using dvd or cd's.

I bet for a little more money you could get a more updated machine. The ones with the floppy drives are becoming more outdated and aren't as easy to use. Most computers don't even have floppy drives on them anymore to transfer the files to them. I'd go with something with a USB. The Designer SE is really nice, and the Quilt Designer II is nice too, you just need to get the extra drive and programmable card to transfer designs to your machine.

Sounds like it is an older Designer I. You have to have some software to create floppy disks that the sewing machine can read. The disks are formatted with a proprietary folder structure. You cannot just drag and drop the embroidery file. The Viking dealer should be able to get you a copy of 3D Organizer which will allow you to send a single design to the Floppy. You will have to purchase a floppy drive for your PC if you don't already have one.
I have an older Designer I and love it. In addition to the embroidery, it will sew thru ANYTHING.

I too have the Designer 1 and when I purchased a new tower, I had to purchase an external hard drive for the floppys. It is the best ride in the park..........calla

I have a Brother embroidery machine that uses floppies - my computer doesn't take floppies but I have a small and inexpensive external 3 1/2 inch floppy drive that holds the floppy disk and designs can be downloaded from the computer just llike one woud to a flash drive ...Just be sure to learn the format your machine uses....

As for the colors of thread. that is difficult to say as designs use different colors....

The floppy disks have been rather difficult to find but only a few are needed as your designs will be in a file on your computer and downloaded as needed. send a pm if you need other information or have a question...

OMGosh. I forgot about purchasing software to go with it. You should be able to find something alittle outdated but very useful without spending too much. Mine (Designer I) is not USB-updated. It still uses a floppy and I just bought an (inexpensive) external floppy drive for the computer. Check eBay for software.
