Default Need Help with Quiltmaker Pattern

I'm working on the Family of Three pattern (3 giraffes) in the Jan/Feb 2016 issue of Quiltmaker magazine and I'm having a problem with one block. Can someone who has the mag let me know if they can try to help me?

Which block are you having trouble with in the pattern? You are much braver than I am when using those tiny blocks. But maybe I can help....

Here we go: On page 38, at the top of the middle column, is a description to make two Unit 4's and one Unit 5, using the orange E, F, H pieces and the gray G piece. My confusion is that when I sew F and G together, the completed piece is 6" long. This completed piece must be sewn between pieces E and H which are each 5 1/2 inches long. There's a 1/2 inch discrepancy. The block picture seems to show that the combined F and G piece is the same length as E and H but it's not. Unless I'm doing something wrong. I was wondering if F should have started at 5" and not 5 1/2". Is this an error in the instructions? I believe I should sew the F/G piece to E and H and not cut off any of the G piece at the bottom but rather cut off 1/2" of the orange end. Your thoughts?

In your browser, type "Quiltmaker errata" . I did that and found the corrections to "Family of Three". Just about all quilt magazines and quilt book authors will publish online corrections.

Elnan - you've saved the day. I'll have to study the corrections, there are a few affecting the pattern. Thanks very much.

It is so sad at how many magazine quilt patterns have errors in them.

And supposedly each pattern is tested before printing. So, it must be the printing process that is careless. If you notice most quilting books are printed in China, I guess so are the mags....and we pay much more for these error
ridden publications. I've also noticed in hard copy books many misspelled words or incorrect word used that sounds the same....forgot the ---- nym for that.. I don't read many ebooks...any there?

I think it is just a lack of proofreading prior to hitting "post". Think of all the errors are have in our emails and even here in the board from being in a hurry to post.

We're just social media, so to speak, published material should have higher standards....they used to.

There is no excuse for errors when customers have to pay. None. Free things on the internet? I might give them some slack but published? No.
