I wrote to F&P complaining that the cover does not stay on ---never heard from them.
The F&P dowel cover doesn't stay on either!

I don't use a seam ripper, I use the little Wiss clipper and love it.

I have a couple of nice, sharp, little red ones!! They are my favorites too!

    I use a #12 disposable scalpel.

Thanks for this tip, MsEithne. I just ordered some from amazon. Also ordered some forceps for getting to things where fingers won't go.

MiEithne, thanks for the instructions - I got one of those and the first time I used it I put a hole in my fabric! I was trying to use it the same way I used the seam ripper - I'll try it again using your method. Thanks again, Karen

I have many different seam rippers, but my very favorite is the surgical seam ripper from Clotilde ($3.98). It is stainless steel, about 4" long and is razor sharp. Was made to rip out serger stitches, but it is great for ripping very tiny stitches. There is also a version with a wooden handle, by Quilting Resources (I also have this), but it is much longer.

This is exactly what I use. Is very easy on the hands and much faste. I make sure mine are sharp on the end and it works great as a seam ripper

I have them all. My favorite is the surgical blade ones and then the Clover, Fons and Porter, or Bernina brand.
