For me it depends on the scale of the print and whether or not there is a top/bottom to the project.

The only time I really care is with fish fabrics, I have a firm rule about "no dead fish" so all must be right side up, or at least swimming up or down.

I think it’s up to you to decide. I have a problem myself with animal fabric because I don’t like cutting off a head or body part.

I am a fan of not ripping blocks apart, so good decision!

I agree with the others. It is completely up to you and the pattern and fabric you use. Welcome to a very addictive hobby!!

Welcome.... I go with random & when choosing fabric I look for patterns that tend to be non-directional .... however you are the artist & it’s what looks good to you

LOL, I get a twinge in my gut still every time I have to chop thru an animal or person. Same thing when I have to stitch thru one. I know it's silly, and I don't let it stop me from using those fabrics, but that little twinge hits me every time!

Same here!! LOL. For the longest time, though, I wouldn't even buy animal prints because I'd have to chop something off. My family and even most fellow quilters thought I was ridiculous and told me to "get over it." I will now buy it, but still feel like I hear a screech of pain coming from the fabric whenever I cut into it!
