Red face Our 2016 President's Mystery Guild Challenge

The challenge will be: Place 3 of your favorite Fat Quarters in a brown paper bag. At the March Meeting we will fill out a form that will have questions about us to fill in the blanks. The form will be attached to our fat quarter bag.(but our Name is taken off the form attached) Only the President will know who the bag belongs to. The bags are passed out to members. We will take the 3 fat quarters and make something based on what the form suggests the member likes. We are permitted to add from our stash to make the item. In October, we are to receive our own fabrics back that we put in the bag...but transformed into an item made by the member who will reveal their name on the sewn item. No size limit was given.

We did this at one of the groups I belong to. I was lucky to get the most adorable table topper that fits perfectly on a small end table. But other members were not so fortunate. One gal got a table runner that she took a quarter apart a d redidjust so she had a useable item.

That is a challenge. It is difficult when you get fabrics that is not inside with what you enjoy working with.

I am worried about getting fabric that doesn't speak to me. I will post what I get at a later date. Stay tuned!

If all that participates want it to be fun and take pride in what they can do then it will be a success. There will always be at least one person who will get a dud though. The one that made the dud will have lots of excuses why.

I don't really understand the point of this. What are you supposed to do with some little something made with several fat quarters? Are you supposed to then get it back and try to turn it into a quilt? I dislike "clutter" items like table toppers, etc. What are you supposed to do with what you get back?

Now that sounds like fun. I hope that in November when the challenge is over you will show us the questions, your answers to the questions and the item someone made for you.

I made a very nice extra large tote for my challenge. The quilter that got it still uses it. What the quilter likes would be listed on their form. Some like smaller items, those that don't, why would they opt to do the challenge in the first place? I selected useful items for my selection and got a nice sturdy fabric bin with handles. I use it to store my charm packs.

I realize with every challenge you take a chance in what the outcome may be for you....as far as what item you will receive. (thus the form with hints of what we like.) Last year we made items that had to be sewing related (used or displayed in a sewing room). All items were wrapped and given away by drawing numbers. I Loved, loved my gift..a fabric scrap basket filled with pretty charm squares. I will post a picture of the item I get this year...October meeting.
