Can anyone tell me if this pattern has a name? I just started sewing squares together to make small 4-patches then joining larger squares to those to make larger 4-patches. Surely, in all the history of quilting, someone has already used this same configuration of squares but I'm not finding a pattern name online.

Yes, indeed Double Four-Patch, Daren. As with any traditional block from days of yore, it comes with many names and it can be made in any size you like. A nice block to start exploring the many traditional old favorites.

The name of a block sometimes changes with the color layout.
So what I may call block "xyz" may be known as block "abc" in another part of the country.
If or when does a block exchange, it's good to have a diagram of the block along with a name for it.
