    Default Pedal problem

I was all set to quilt a quilt this weekend. It was 37*c (99*F) outside so even though it was sunny it was a good excuse to stay inside. I started quilting (stitch the ditch) and the pedal would go for 2 or 5 mins then stop for 10-30 seconds - pedal indicator light went out. Then the pedal indicator would come back on again and I could sew again. So very annoying that I eventually gave up.

I’ve watched a few YouTube’s and I’m guessing I need a new pedal. This one is clean so I don’t think it’s fluff inside but I can’t get it apart to check.

I have a Janome skyline s3 and it’s usually a fabulous, quiet machine. Has anyone had this problem before? Do I need a new pedal?

Yes, my friend Cindi had the same problem with her Janome. She had her hubby take it apart and found that even though it looked clean, it was packed full of hair and lint. Cleaned it out and it worked just fine after that.

I got DH to take the pedal apart today. No dust (amazingly as I quilt rather than clean!) but he thought the cable was squashed where it went into the pedal. He replaced that section and it works better (less frequent stops) but it’s still not perfect. I might need a new pedal. 🥴

I, too, need a new foot pedal for a 40 year old Bernina 830. Thankfully, I have 2 machines, but only one pedal. I have had trouble finding a replacement. Any help would be appreciated.

Be careful that they are actually authentic and not some off-brand. Amazon is not a place I would venture to buy parts for a classic Bernina...

I have ordered parts many times from Sewingpartsonline.com If you have questions, email them and they will respond fairly quickly. I have never had an issue with anything I've ordered from them.

I just had my machine(viking) in to be cleaned and have this same problem checked out. They told me to make sure I have my whole foot on the middle of the pedal. They couldn't find anything wrong with.

I borrowed a new foot pedal from Hobbysew where I bought the machine ages ago. They had the next level up foot for an s5 and up (a wider foot). So far so good (but only did a test run as I’ve been busy). Think I’ve solved my problem of the machine stopping and pausing for 10-30 seconds every few minutes of sewing.

Thanks everyone for your helpful suggestions.
