Default Pfaff Performance Icon and Aurifil thread

I have a new Pfaff Performance Icon. I always piece with 50 weight Aurifil thread--this machine won't work good with it. It skips stitches. I took it back to my dealer and she tried it with Signature 50 weight thread (which is thicker than the Aurifil for some reason) and it sews beautifully. I use Aurifil on my other 3 Pfaff machines and it works fine. Is it that this new machine might need some kind of adjustment or it just isn't going to like my thread. I have several spools of this thread and I don't want to just have it sit! Two of my other machines I use primarily for embroidery and the other is my travel machine (smaller). The Icon I bought to replace my Quilt Expression 4.0 (I wish I had just kept it and not traded!). Any ideas from anyone?

What needle and what size are you using? You might try a different
needle. I know on some Janome machines the Organ needles work
    better for FMQ.

I've used 70, 80 and 90 needles, all new. Inspira (Pfaff needles) and none of them made a difference. It's hard to believe a machine like this won't stitch good with quality thread, and I consider Aurifil a quality thread. I've also tried Organ and Schmetz needles, all new needles.

Is the spool of thread vertical or horizontal? I've had problems with that
on my machine with Aurifil. After moving it to the back of the machine
and putting the little cap on, it worked fine.

Signature 50 weight thread (which is thicker than the Aurifil for some reason) and it sews beautifully.
You would think a dealer would know that Aurifil is 2 ply 50 wt and the Signature is 3 ply 50 wt. which means each one needs a different size needle because of the ply thickness. If the dealer did not know the difference then I would be very cautious about any advice given.

I use size 70/11 needle with Aurifil 50wt 2 ply and other thin thread. With 3 ply I use a size 80/60 and sometimes if it is linty a size 90/14 has to be used. It would definitely raise a red flag if my machine dealer did not know the difference between the threads.

Some suggested I try a 60/8 needle so I did that this afternoon and so far I have had no skipped stitches. Which is weird because I never used that size on my QE 4! But as long as it works, I'm fine with it!

I have a Pfaff Creative Icon and use Aurifil 50 wt and haven’t had any problems. I use Schmetz Microtex 80/12 needles.

Changed the needle on my Bernina to a 70/10 microtex this morning and she is working fine now.
My first clue was my quilt class instructor recommending Aurifil thread for intricate piecing because it is a finer thread.Had been using Mettler thread until recently and I was thinking the change to 50 wt Aurifil could be just enough to cause stitch problems. Or did I just get lucky with rethreading after the needle change? Anyway good to find out others have done this and had positive results. Thank you quilting board!

Hmmm, after reading a few more replies I wonder, maybe it was the change over to a microtex needle.
