    I always prewash too.

Like many others, it's not worth the risk to me. I prefer a smoother look to my quilts so don't want the shrinkage, not worth the risk of bleeding and I don't like working with fabric with all the chemicals still in it and many other things.

There's likely more but the end is I prewash everything. Others don't but I do and likely always will unless someone can show me how prewashing would do damage! LOL

I just received a kit yesterday and was thinking the same thing. I usually wash everything first, but not this because of the skimpy looking cuts. I'll have to add other fabric to make a whole quilt though, so.......wash IT first or not?

I don't pre-wash because I like the looks of the quilt after it's washed. The quilting pattern shows up much better.

I recently gently prewashed batik 2.5 " strips in my sink and laid them out on towels to dry. Some shrunk (widthwise) and some did not. Next time I won't prewash!

    Same here.

My personal experience has been that it's worth the effort. It's kind of in the same category as using seat belts - most of the time the fabrics are okay enough to use "as is" - but every once in a while I come across a stinker.

Same for seat belts - most of the time I get to and from wherever with no problems. Once in a while one doesn't.
This response has me puzzled. I do not see the parallel.

I prewash EVERYTHING! Better safe than sorry. Prewashing also eliminates the problem of one fabric shrinking at a different rate that another, like if you accidentaly happen to include something like a synthetic or blend in your fabricsl :-D

Prewash fabric before cutting, then you won't have this problem, think how upsetting it would be in the qult thats finished and is all wonky! :-D

I had purchased a jellyroll of spring green batik fabrics, and followed the directions for the suggested prewashing. Makes me wonder if I should repwash precut squares and/or strips.
