The only time I had trouble with glasses & such being tipsy was years & years ago I used a higher loft polyester batting. Nothing sat evenly on it. Just too bumpy with the high loft & quite heavy quilting. That was the batting I had on hand but I never used it again for table toppers or placemats. These days I always use cotton batting or 80/20. I also have used fusible fleece but I always have batting on hand so use that mostly. Have fun!

I almost always have a table topper or quilt (yes--some are made just for my table when the leaves are in it)and all are quilted with 80/20. some are densely quilted, others medium. so far never had a problem with tippy stuff.

I use Hobbs fusible batting in most of my runners and toppers. I like to quilt my own the fusible really keeps every in line. Also gives a very flat surface.

I make table runners all the time and I always use left over pieces of warm and natural. I make all my table runners reversible, pieced on one side and a print for the other (maybe a different season), and then quilt them. Then I always use a coordinated fabric of both sides for the binding.
