Is there, in your opinion, a difference between an artist and a quilter, other than the medium used? I don't think so. I ask this based on reading everyone's comments throughout the entire board. :)

An artist is a creator of art; a skilled person, somebody who does something skillfully and creatively, so, no difference!

yeps quilters are arteeest as the french may say. anything made by humans is considered to be art, but it is left to interpretation and the eye of the beholder.

Well let's look at it totally objectively. Webster defines an artist as:
"One skilled or versed in learned arts"
And the Princeton Wordnet defines an artist as:
"A person whose creative work shows sensitivity and imagination"
So....I would think that most quilters easily fit into the category of "Artist". :D

I think that some quilters are more craftsmanlike, while others are more art-oriented.

I think there is a higher level of artistry in designing your own pattern, selecting all your own colors and textures quilt stitching, than in copying a pattern. Not to say that a quilt made following a pattern or a traditional block is not artistic, but the person making it is falling more in the realm of the crafts(wo)man.
