Anyone have ideas for a challenge to our Guild?
We only have 94 members and their skills range from
new to experienced. I'd like the items to be wall hangings
and then have an auction of them to raise money
for our Children's Charity we support.

For our latest challenge, which goes along with our next quilt show, the guild put together challenge kits, which included one of 2 fabrics, and sold them for $4 to the participants. We have to use that fabric on the FRONT of our quilt, add a blue fabric, plus any other fabric or embellishments that we choose. The quilt size cannot exceed a maximum of 160", measured around the outside edges, and can be any shape we like. So they could be 40" square or 30" X 50" or smaller or round....

Our current challenge is to make a 3d fairy tale. 3d could be free standing, trapunto, or illusion.

Last year the challenge was to "go wild". Interpret wild any way you like--either crazy, weird, or wild from nature. The winner was an interpretation of the wild fire in Australia.

You can do crayola challenges, M&M challenges, and ugly fabric challenges.

I just finished a commercial color challenge. We drew "things" from a bag and had to use the colors of the thing we drew. The things in the bag were all paper and were things like greeting cards, napkins, food labels and magazine covers.

Another one I'm in that's due in May is called fire and ice. Anything goes in that one and it has a size restriction.

Our current challenge is using a piece of "ugly" fabric, that we all were given, and try to use it all in something. Also a square, triangle and circle must be made using that fabric.

Our guild did a challenge using our three initials. We used three fabrics in colors that matched the initial of our name.

    My quilt: B - Black
    J - Java
    R - Red

Fun, easy for some, more complicated for others.

    We have done several:

    1. All black and white and any shade in between.

    2. 2 inch squares in the background, and any applique you wanted.

    3. Put 5 fat quarters in a paper bag and bring to a meeting. Next month you get a paper bag with someone esle's fat quarters. You do whatever you wish. There may be a paper in the bag with a list of things not to make, but if there is no paper, you are free to run with it on any direction you want. You can add fabrics, but not remove any. After a few months you bring it back and everyone receives their fabrics back, made into something. A great way to use fabric in new ways.

    4. Postcard quilts

    5. Quilt with animal themes.

    6. A quilt using a pre-printed panel. Finish it any way you want.

Our latest is this: 5 polka dotted fabrics on front and at least two different rick racks.
Still wondering what I'm going to do for this one!
