Hi. I have done three quilts by hand - hand piecing and quilting. I really want to learn how to machine quilt. I don't know how to sew at all. well, I do have a machine that I used to do machine blanket stitch on an applique once. I learn best by doing and want to find someone who can teach me basic sewing and machine piecing/quilting. I would prefer one-on-one training, but a class would be ok if I can't find one-on-one. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I would suggest you contact MaryJo's in Concord, NC, the largest fabric shop I can think of in the area. They may know of someone who could help. I would offer, but I'm 90 miles south of you in SC. Good luck!

There are several nice quilt shops in Charlotte. I would call them or check their websites to see if they have classes.

I had forgotten about Mary Jo's. I used to live in Gaston County and went there a couple of times. Last time I checked (4 or 5 years ago) they didn't offer classes, but they may now. I did find two quilt shops that offer classes, but I'd rather learn one-on-one if I can find someone. Although interaction in classes can also be very educational!

Here's another suggestion: See if you can find a local quilt guild. One of the Quilt Shops will probably know of local guilds. Usually there are members who would show/teach beginning piecing/quilting. Good Luck!
