i have questions regarding QuiltPro. they gave me vague answers and told me to buy it and return it if i'm not satisfied. that sounds very wrong.

so.... does anyone have it and make good use of it? or have it and feel it doesn't live up to expectations?

if instructions say to cut squares 5.5" and cut them diagonally 2x, then sew them to half squares 2.5" that are cut 1x diagonally, etc to make a quilt 60 x 75, and i want to make a quilt 98 x 98, will QuiltPro make those changes for me without me doing the math? after all, if i do the match, who needs them? now, i graph it all out. there must be another way. EQ is not for Mac.

I have had quilt pro for years and use it mainly for sizing quilts and estimate of yardage. If you lay out the finished block in the block section, it will give you all the cutting patterns. Just print them out. Great this way.

I'd just use the free Quilters Tool Box on the Thousand of Bolts website. It gives you the yardage for any quilt you design.

you copy? scan? a picture of the block and say that you want to enlarge it by a certain number, or you copy the block and say you want a 98 x 98 quilt with ten blocks across and 10 blocks down and it resizes it for you? it automatically changes the instructions? will it also change them to templates or rotary pics? i can't get my head around what it can do. i find the web information very vague. they really don't say exactly how it works.

do you have mac, by any chance

i'm going to look at that now. what does it do besides give yardage estimates?

that's a nice feature, but it doesn't break down the measurements into segments that can be increased. you're also limited to their own blocks. still, a good idea. thanks.

Hey Barbara,
I have Quilt Pro and have had it for many years.
When I was actively designing patterns for publication,
that's what I used. I still use it to this day even though
I'm not designing patterns to sell any longer. I love
this program. I will have to say, though, that on the
newest version, Quilt Pro 6, they made a lot of changes
and made it work more like EQ. I have versions 4 - 6,
and I still stick to version 4 because I like it better. But,
if you have never used it, then you might like 6 better,
because you wouldn't have anything to compare it to.

If you could get 4 or 5, perhaps on ebay, either of those would work well also. I have found that versions 4 - 5
have an easier learning curve than I think 6 has, but like
I said, if you aren't used to any of them, then you might want to start with 6.

The program will do everything from letting you draw
your own block and create your own design, to adding
your fabrics that you plan to use in the quilt. And yes,
if you have a block or a quilt that you want to enlarge,
it will give you any size you want, and will also let you
print out fabric requirements, rotary cutting measurements, and paper piecing - just about anything you want. The company is great. I have found them most helpful and would recommend this program if you are wanting to
invest in one.

that is very happy news and thank you. it sounds like it will do everything i want it to do and more. only the 5 works with mac, but it sounds like that would be enough for what i need.
i really just need math help.

the investment isn't that great that i feel i need to have the latest and the greatest. everything is lightyears behind for mac and i live with it. EQ doesn't even admit there is a mac.

as long as there's a tech person, that's PERSON, if any glitches occur, then i think i'll go ahead with it. i find it interesting that so few people have it even though EQ is more $$$$. that always made me a little leery of it. but i've been told by an impeccable source that this is EQ's main competitor, so how bad can it be? and what choice do i have with mac?

the impeccable source. I do think you will like this program
and they do have a great tech person that is very patient.
Nope, no packing yet, but if I could find a good place to
go to get out of this heat, I would pack in a hurry. :lol:

if you're looking for heat relief, keep looking. it's 8:11 PM and still 87*. my dd just came home from iceland today and she's ready to go back. it's like autumn there.
