    Default Self imposed quilting/sewing rules

    Do you have any?

    I do.

    One of mine is:

I press a finished quilt top from the back to spot skimpy seam allowances or twisted seams so i can fix them.

Do you have any "things" that you have to do?

If my border is pieced I stitch a scant 1/4 seam around the edges to keep it from pulling apart while being quilted. Also make the binding and the label right away so I can complete the quilt as soon as it comes back from the quilter.

I will not start a new quilt until my sewing room is completely cleaned, dusted and vacuumed, everything is put away where it belongs, and sewing machine & longarm are cleaned and defuzzed.

cindi: You are so disciplined! I'm usually so anxious to get started on a new quilt that doesn't happen here. I've decided 2017 is the year to at least make a dent in my UFO pile. In the process, other things are being organized. For instance, I'm doing the 2017 Temperature quilt and cut all the color triangles I'll need to get going. Excess fabric is being kept together in case I need to cut more. I didn't know how many triangles I'd need, but didn't want to cut many extra. I'm switching between UFOs and small panel/lap quilts. I try to do a bit of organizing between projects.

I can't have fat quarters folded differently; even when brand new from various shops and the folds are different, I have to open them all and press them, then fold them my way.

I have a bit of OCD in general so it transfers to quilting, I will only work on 1 quilt at a time to try and avoid UFO's. I clean my room after the end of each sewing session, dust, vac, put away my project etc.... . I will not start a new project until I have read the pattern a few times to make sure I understand it, and then I check to see if there are any corrections online, I hate being frustrated with a project.
