    Default Singer 306 W machine

Trying to find a good, real metal, electric sewing machine.... No frills, just basic... Found a Singer 306 W model.... anyone know anything about this model?

It takes special, mail order only needles so if that's a concern or problem for you, you should be aware. I have a 319 which is the similar model. I have to admit, it's not my favorite machine. I have about 30 vintage machines and I find it a bit clanky and slower than I prefer. You should test it out before you buy.

The Singer 301 straight stitch only is a good machine. Also Singers in the 400 series and the 500 series ( will zig zag) are really good and sturdy machines. They have a slant needle shank. Needles are readily available.

If you are only going to piece a featherweight is a good choice. So are the 301s. I also like my 15-91 potted machine in a cabinet. It also only straight stitches.

I have that machine . It is a real work horse. My Mom sewed everything on it coats, pinch pleat curtains , you name it if it was made out of fabric she sewed it. I have it and work it just as hard. Do note it takes a special needle. You can still get them from on line sources.
