O.K., I'm almost ready to quilt the top of my latest quilt. It will be stitch in the ditch because I'm new at this and all the blocks are geometric. Should I use the walking foot or the Stitch in the Ditch foot? Thank you.

Yes, use your walking foot. It will make it easier to pull all of the layers through the machine evenly.

that can depend on your feet of the sewing machine. my Pfaff has an automatic walking foot tech with feet that are split in the back to allow the tech to ride behind the foot. i can't use it on feet that are solid across the back. so, i can use my stitch in the ditch foot and walk at the same time. I use the stitch in the ditch foot if that is what i want to do as that helpd me guilde the fabric right. walking foot would be my next choice.

i suggest you play with both feet on scraps that are sandwiched the same and see how the feel of the different feet are. then you will know which one is best for your quilt and have better luck. use some leftover blocks or a block you never want to see again for the practice. good luck!

I have never had good luck with a walking foot. Maybe it's just me  I use my embroidery foot.

Me too, I use my open toe satin stitch foot, it runs over any bumps with no probs and you can see where you are going so much easier.

After reading this I'm a bit confused. Do you use the darning foot to FMQ and the walking foot when stitching in the ditch?

Some of the machines now have a stitch in the ditch that is combined with a walking foot ... a truley needed invention!
The walking foot will help to prevent puckering on the back... If I had to choose .. I would pick the walking foot... I just hate even the smallest puckers.

Walking Foot!!! When I try to quilt without a walking foot I get one layer longer than the other plus wrinkles.
