    Default Sulky Premium 40 weight

A friend gifted our quilting group with a huge box of Sulky threads. I am eyeing the blues and greens, as I have an underwater themed baby quilt to FMQ. Would this thread be ok for that application? The quilt will get a lot of use and laundering. This will be a gift and I don't want it to fall apart or deteriorate, but I sure would like to use this thread as it's gorgeous! What do you think? Have you used 40 weight rayon thread for FMQ? Results?

I use 40wt for embroidery work not like it would be strong enough to quilt with.

I hand quilt with 40wt thread and have had no problems with wear and tear on the thread or quilt. I have the same results with 40wt polyester thread too. I’ve been quilting since the mid ‘80s and the quilting has held up, can’t see where a 40wt rayon thread would behave differently BUT I have no experience with rayon.

I have some Sulky embroidery thread that just seems to shred on my long arm--not sure that rayon holds up well to the high speed machines. I use it in making totes and doing the binding on baby quilts with decorative machine stitches (so tighter & slower stitch).
