I am with Patrice on this. Discuss the matter with your hubby before you do anything.

I wish we had kept Mom's when she died. It was a great machine.

Where do we sign up for Quilter's Anonymous, and while we are signing up I also need Fabric's Anonymous.

Would you believe there IS a "Quilters Anonymous"! Although, it doesn't sound like your traditional 12 Step Program... here's the link, judge for yourself.

    http://www.quiltersanonymous.org/

Oh, and yes virginia, there IS also a "Fabrics Anonymous", complete with their 12 Steps! What a hoot!! Check 'em out here:

Maybe we should start a new thread on these findings?

    Happy sewing,

I have 401-A--my first machine. 2 years ago, for its 50th birthday, I took it for it's first repair. the belt was slipping and needed replaced.
never had a problem, and sewed my school clothes, kids clothes, and grandkids clothes. Have a viking now, but would never part with my 401A. HUMMM-wonder why the feed dogs still are in great shape, and my viking is on it's 2nd set, and really need to be replaced again. don't make 'em like they used to.

If you're looking for a reason *not* to buy it, don't look at me. I'd pick that baby up in a NY second. :D

I have one that my husbands uncle sold me for $25, he said it was his moms who earned money sewing dresses for ladies. They had originally taken it to the Pfaff dealer to use for a trade in and she wouldn't take it. I love it. I bought a foot for quilting free motion from Little Foot in Texas. this machine quilts better than my bernina. Its set up in my living room so I can sew on it while my husband watches TV.

It quilts better than your Bernina?! May I ask what model Bernina you have? I have an old 730 Record and a 1090. I assume your talking about free motion quilting, or not? I'm getting my feet wet with FMQ, but the water's still cold, lol. I have a Singer Stylist 413 with a gorgeous straight stitch, but have not tried it out on FMQ yet. Thanks for your opinion.

    Happy sewing!

Oooh I am exited. I thought I had lost this deal because the guy didn't answer. I just got an email. He was out of town and his phone is off when he is gone.
We'll go up there Saturday to get that machine. I'll let y'all know how it goes.

    Yeepee!!!!!

I had a 401A in 1959 from my husband as a wedding present. We did a lot of traveling, so I sold it. Since then I am on my FOURTH Viking. I still have the one from 1969 and a Designer 1 I bought last November. I also have a Singer Quantum XL I dealy would love to sell and a Serger I put uo on Craigslist with mixed emotions. I am in my late seventies, have had some serious health problems that are i remission currently. I don't indend to give up on life yet.

Yea, you got the baby. I hope you don't have to do to much to it. I always have any machine serviced as soon as I get it.
