I've seen different sizes used. It would probably depend on whether other blocks are also being used in adjacent squares, and whether you needed the points of the snowball to match up.

I think you are asking about what proportion the snowball should be to the size of the unit?

I read once that if you are not lining up with other adjacent squares, they should generally be 1/4 the size of the block. As in if your block is 8" than your triangle is 2". HTH

NO, there really isn't any rule. You can make them as big or small as you want.

I always just use the size square I want in the corner, sew the diagonal seam and trim away the extra. Sure it wastes a bit of fabric but it keeps the center bias nice and stable for stitching.

I would experiment with different sizes and use the one you like.

A long time ago....the rule of thumb was: block divisible by three.....thus 3" block=1" square in corners for triangles..., 6" block, 2"corner squares....etc.... But nowadays I think it's whatever you want it to look like......from square in a square look to just little nips off the corners......
