I agree with the hand quilting. If you cannot hand quilt it, there are several senior citizens groups in our area that do hand quilting for the public. You might try to find one of those near you or check with some fabric stores. Sometimes they have a list of people who do work for the public. Machine quilting on a top that has been hand pieced is something I wouldn't do. Just my humble opinion.

I have $20 quilt find that I got about 7 years ago. It was at the end of the day at an indoor flea market. They had a price of $40 on it, but all I had was $20 with me - person asked if I liked it, I said yes, but all I had was $20, and being the end of the day and not wanting to take it back home (I guess) it was mine. It is 72" by 74". The squares are 1 1/2" and are tied at the corners and the middle of each square. I have seen quite a few older quilts like this that have been tied. It looks like the silk blanket binding was and after thought - just sort of thrown on by machine - the rest looks hand stitched.
$20 quilt (looks hand done except the blanket binding)

I would also hand quilt it, it's going to take a lot of time, but it will be worth it in the end. Just simple quilting is all that it needs, nothing fancy. The hand quilting will bring out the beauty of the quilt.

I have hand quilted vintage tops before, let me know if you want a quote. Shouldn't be too much as the quilting will be simple.
I have spent many years buying and selling antique quilts (not anymore) and I have to say I can't remember ever seeing a vintage quilt that was machine quilted. Just tied or hand quilted. So if people were doing it I think it was pretty rare.
