I have been asked to make a quilt for a friends friend and was wondering what colors to use. I have this much information.

Wanting something with soft earthly colors, to be feminine looking and the bedroom walls are currently painted a light violet.

Open to all suggestions - thank you so much for your help.

I would probably use a light sky blue, green, an eggshell or light brown & maybe a medium brown for contrast. Think of colors you'd see outside. sky/water, trees/grass, soil/sand and maybe sunrise/sunset. Those types of colors in soft, (not the brighter shades).

Here's a really fun site. Find the originial color, light violet and then you can click on the different combinations to see what would go with it.

Have them go and buy the fabrics for the quilt. Give them a list of how much to get, twin, full, queen or king. Or do they want it as a topper or to the floor.

Then what they get is what they want. And you can be sure they will sure as heck value it higher than if is simply handed to them and all they have to do is thank you. If they do such things, some folks don't.

I can't find the exact blog I was looking for, but here's one that also does the same thing. I'll keep looking for the other one.

She takes a photograph of nature, and pulls the colors to create a palette for use in..whatever medium you want.

    It's genius.

And the most recent entry is sort of "earthy."

I *love* that link, and how she has taken inspiration for the colors from life itself!
