    I will usually use it up in some piecing that has some similar color, or at least hue.

    I use them for piecing. I never unwind or throw them away

    These sound interesting. I quilt with a lot of colored thread and have a number of bobbins that are partially full. Thanks.

    Also, thanks for all the great ideas about sandwiching the thread between sheets of water soluable stabilizer and making a "fabric" -- that sounds like fun!! Will have to give it a try.

    I think I will be saving if I have 1/2 or more, and use anything less for piecing (unless the thread is real expensive or hard to find).

    This is what I do, too. I've also made 16-patch blocks of same-color squares to use up a specific bobbin color; if I have two bobbins in the same color family, I'll use that for the top thread. The 16-patches go into a bin just for community service quilts; I'll sash and add cornerstone squares.
