i leave my scraps the way they are you never know what size you need.

i even save the tiny crumbs because they are good for applique of small sections.

If scrappy quilts appeal pick 2 or 3 patterns you want to make and start cutting.

It depends on what kind of patterns you tend to make if you should cut them or not - if you make lots of patterns using squares, cut them into squares etc. I never know what I'm going to use mine for so they're sorted into tubs by colour - pink thru red, cream thru brown, black, grey and purple, green, blue - 5 tubs in all. A 'scrap' to me is anything smaller than FQ and I keep everything down to around a half inch as I might want to do mosaic or confetti one day. My DH says I'm so anal I even have a tub labelled 'Scraps Too Small to be Useful' - this is NOT true!!! :mrgreen: :lol: :D

yesterday, I put scrappy log cabin in the search engine, and came up with a very easy one to do. Found it of a blog of Flutter-Kat.

Also there was a pix of a quilt on here the last week or so, looked like one I might want to try, I have searched the board, and can't find it, it had a picture of a pattern with the quilt, and it was Calico Printworks pattern. Been to the site,haven't found it yet.

At my local Bernina shop they have a monthly class called scrap therapy. All of your scraps are cut into 5'square, 3.5"squares, 2" squares and 2.5" strips. You place them in different boxes for each size. I start with the largest 5" squares from my scraps first or the 2.5" strips, then work down til theres nothing left. The patterns use some or all of the sizes in full size or cut down. The are all beautiful. If I knew how to attach pic for you I would send you one! The beauty of it is you get into a habit of cutting your scraps as you complete a project, your sewing room stays organized and you don't feel like your throwing anything away! I have to admit if I'm in love with a fabric I do keep it the way it is so I might be able to use it in applique. Good Luck!

I have some neatly cut, some in boxes in their natural state and some by the machine for trial and error for stitches and tensions. In other words, they're all over the place. I do use them but they are growing.
