    Default What I did yesterday/today

I recently purchased a new serger and then took the guide class at the LQS. The instructor said she'd just made a log cabin quilt top using the serger, saying if you cut your strips accurately, the machine will do the rest. She sure was correct. The backside of the top is clean and neat. All you need to do is cut between the blocks, press and then align the new fabric straight along the long strip already in place. The serger will trim off the tails and odd strings. I could hardly believe how quickly this top came together.

I had so many leftover strips from other Quilts of Valor and now my strip scraps all gone. Please give it a try and agree this is an easy method.

How is the bulk in the seams? Does it lay flat?

I used a three-thread serge. Forgot to mention that while you press along the way, the only pressing that needs to be done is when you put all of the blocks together.

I just came from my sewing room and added the o/s borders and the top is completely done. All this in 1-1/2 days. Previously, it would take me days. I must thank Glenda for this info.

I tried my Baby lock over 15 years ago and was not happy with the results. Too much bulk from the seam. Glad that you are pleased.

I took a class using the serger for a courthouse steps. It came out really great. Just a note -- we were told to cut our strips lengthwise to avoid any stretching.

Sounds great, I do not have a serger.
