What is a layer cake?

I finally figured out a "jelly roll' is a bunch of 2 1/2 inch wide strips cut width of fabric and rolled up - very prettily - is there a particular number of strips in a jelly roll?

A "noodle" is one strip 2 1/2 inch wide cut the width of the fabric

Any other terms out there?

A "charm" is a square how big?

Layer cake is 10"squares. Sold like the charm squares, packaged with a line of fabrics. Moda has them, so do some other companies. Charm's are 5" squares. Sometimes those are called Nickels and the 10" are sometimes called Dimes.

Hi,

You can do many things with layer cakes.....I cut them in half both ways and then diagonally each square and made a pinwheel quilt....turned out great!
A honey bun is a roll of 1 1/2 inch strips.....Moda has them.

There are also fat rolls out there, which are 5 inch strips...

Lots of different rolls and buns out there...they can be fun! I am doing a quilt with a jelly roll and it's turning out beautifully. Moda fabric, Nothern Solitude is what I am using and making a pattern called "Split Decision". I will post when I am finished with it.

Have fun!

Bevsie, we do soooo love pictures! I'm working on a Moda Sultry jelly roll quilt. It's one of those braided ones (can't remember what it's called).

My mom used to make a poppy seed cake from scratch, with a custard/pudding filling and seven-minute frosting on it. MMMMMM

That'd make a messy quilt, though, wouldn't it?

I think they know we love to eat so they name these after some of our favorite foods. I can't seem to resist them.
