Default What are your methods of removing wrinkles from batting?

I've just taken batting out of it's package and it is distorted; some areas are stretched and some areas have a lot of wrinkles. It's 80/20 cotton batting from Connecting Threads. I'm going to leave it on the floor for a couple of days but I really don't think it will smooth out. I think the wrinkles will relax a bit but I'm concerned about the places that are stretched. My washer is working and I could wash it but I'm without a dryer right now. I could dry press it because I'm concerned about steam. There is a 5% shrinkage and I'd rather have the shrinkage with the whole quilt when it is washed. Any suggestions? Thanks for whatever help you can offer!

Spray your batting with water on the wrinkles and then put it in the dryer on low. All my wrinkles come out this way.

I do the same! Some people say to put a slightly damp hand towel in, but the spritzing works fine for me.

I spritz or use a damp towel too!

I just put a wet towel in the dryer with the batting and that works for me

You might have to take it to the laundromat since your dryer isn't working.

I'd spritz it and then spin it in the laundromat dryer for a quarter (or two if it needs more spritzing and drying). I've found that any distortions left after doing that are never findable in the finished quilt.

Do you have a neighbor with a dryer you can use? I would not advise washing it, especially without a working dryer. If you ever do wash a batt, be sure not to agitate.

I wet a bath towel, wring it out and throw it in the dryer with the batting. Use a low heat, timed setting. Check your lint trap frequently.

Thank you all for your help. Sometimes it's the most simple solution. A spritz and a dryer, well, what an easy fix! I'll visit the laundromat tomorrow. Normally I just take what I need from a roll of batting. It doesn't require much in the way of smoothing. But that roll of batting happens to be at our other home. We are in the process of moving. Most everything has been moved except us (my husband and I) and my sewing machine. I told my husband when the sewing machine is moved, so am I! Thanks again everyone. You are really the best. I'm glad I can take you all with me when I finally move!
