I tired the "Kabnet Wax" and it will not go through my inkjet printer but it's my choice for foundation piecing. I won't use vellum for foundation piecing, only paper piecing. I use to think buying vellum was a waste of money when there were cheaper things to use. I got over that with my first vellum use.

To find recycled newsprint at office supply stores, look for children's drawing pads. The brand I like is called Scribbles and it comes two pads to a package at Staples. I have to trim off 1/2" for it to fit my printer but it prints fine and is very easy to tear away but also very easy to rip before you are finished sewing on it and doesn't pull away clean like the vellum.

Vellum is quite expensive. I just use regular copy paper and it works just fine. Just a thought for you.

I can't remember what it is called, but I buy mine at JoAnns and it is not real thin, but I have left it in a few projects for stablizer - I hate pulling all that paper off of projects-such a pain. My store has it in with some of the more expensive quilting notions - i just use a coupon when I don't have fabric to buy and stock up on it. If you want I can swing by there tomorrow to get the name of it for you.

I did a small PP project and used paper I bought at a quilt show intended for PP and I had a lot of difficulty with seeing thru it. I would have loved to have had some vellum. How would onion skin tracing paper work? I would think you could get the vellum anywhere they see art supplies or Office Max, Office Depot, Staples, etc. They don't have a Staples near me but do have the other two.

I use parchment instead of vellum paper very often Yop can find it at the grocery store.

yes, perfectly. I do set the preference for presentation printing so I get a nice, dark line.

We get thin paper from the newspaper. It's not printed on and this works great. :thumbup:
