I went to JoAnn's yesterday and purchased some fabric. I did feel the fabric first. Some was light weight and some was pretty heavy. I'm good with what I bought.

It is their least expensive line of quilt cotton fabric. It can generally be purchased for between $3.00 to $3.99 a yard (on sale)

I have purchased Quilter's Showcase and been happy with it for backs. It's also great for collage work and wall hangings.

I use both Quilters Showcase and Keepsake Cotton when they are on sale. I make prayer quilts and many of them go to people in nursing homes. Most will not last 5 years as the families often don't want them when the person dies. So I'm happy to use "inferior" fabrics if it allows me to brighten the life of someone for a few months or years. Would I like to use quilt shop quality fabric? Sure. But I have a choice of making one quilt of expensive fabric or three of less expensive.
I also like Marshals Dry Goods fabrics. I often buy a bolt for $1.85 a yard, which ends up around $2.25 with shipping. Their quality is excellent.

I've used JAF fabrics (all of their lines...from the Quilter's Showcase to the Premiums) in all my quilts and have never had a problem with any of them. My local store (north Nashua, NH) is wonderful, clean and the folks that work there are knowledgeable and friendly. Never had a problem with coupon usage and will usually wait until things are back at full price, then buy them with a coupon.
