Hey All Y'all, Kendra just sent me some important info in a pm that I would like to share.

When I mailed my quilt to her, I insured it, reasoning that an insured package might be handled with more care and thus be less likely to be lost. I chose a number at random, and insured the box for $200.00. The cost to me for the insurance was minimal.

Well, Kendra informed me that Canadian Customs charges a tax to the recipient based on the declared/insured value of the package, and the poor thing had to pay more than $30.00 in taxes to get the box. I feel AWFUL, and will definitely reimburse her, but it may be something to consider when any of us send something to Canada in the future. I'm specifically thinking of the IRR too.

The tax thing sucks (as you all say!) I guess that could apply from France to the US too? We'll have to look into it for the IRR. :?
